Tour Guide/ Kennel Assistant
Black Spruce Dog Sledding is looking for one or two self-motivated, animal-loving, outdoor enthusiast(s) to join our team! At minimum, this new hire will run dog sledding tours a few days a week and assist with daily kennel chores. Additional opportunities for routine trail maintenance and business development could also be available to an interested and talented person. Pay will be commensurate with agreed-upon responsibilities. Please inquire for details. Prior experience is not necessarily required in any of these categories, but would be helpful.

Black Spruce Dog Sledding is located about 40 minutes’ drive (15 miles) northwest of Fairbanks, Alaska. On-site housing is provided in a private, 14 x 18 dry cabin (no running water) on 5 acres. A vehicle would also be available for local travel most days, along with a weekly food stipend. Pay is negotiable, commensurate with experience, available start date, and the amount of responsibly you wish to take on. New hires, not already experienced in running sled dogs, should also accept this unique learning opportunity as part of their overall compensation package.

Term dates: Fall 2019 – April 2020
Applications will be taken through August with the goal of hiring by early/mid-September. It’s most important to us that we find the perfect person for the job, so the hiring process will be flexible, but interested applicants should apply ASAP.
Applicants not already familiar with dog mushing should plan to start between mid September and the end of October. Experienced mushers can start by the middle or end of November at the latest.
New hire must be able to work into April. Specific end dates can be discussed during the interview process.
